If you’re not aware of all the different types of content you can add into a blog, you may be in for a nice surprise.  You see, you don’t always have to write a story or about a certain topic.  Did you know you can create lists, add videos and more to add to your blog website?

Here 11 types of Blog Posts

#1 “How To” Posts

Create “How Tos” articles.  It could be something about a topic in your niche.  Make sure to create something that’s basic or easy to understand for the beginner.

#2 Create Lists 

It could be a list of tools you use for WordPress. Or a list of the top ten websites every blogger should know about.   Your readers will be interested in any relevant lists that you create.

#3 Write Long Blogs

Most blog posts that you write will be around 300 words or less. On occasion, it’s good to write an in-depth topic that has about 1500 words or more. Make sure to add a couple of images to break up the texts and make it more appealing to look at too.

#4 Teach with Tutorials

You can demonstrate how to do something with webinars or show step-by-step instruction.  Make sure it’s something your audience wants to learn to do.  So, for example, if you have a cooking-related website, you can teach your audience how to chop veggies properly and safely. If you build WordPress sites, you can teach your audience how to add a blog post.

#5 Add Videos

You can create a two or three minute video blog instead or writing something.  In fact,  you can just embed videos as a blog, better known as “vlogging”.   Additionally, you will embed it into your blog with appropriate title descriptions.

#6 Images and Infographics

Using data from studies relating to your niche, is a great way to provide interesting content for your blog. You can create images using stock photos or you can make them yourself using a quote in attractive text. It’s a good idea to include some commentary since search engines don’t always understand images. Use both the “alt” tags as well as some text to describe the image.

#7 Short Focused Posts

If you have a short update, it’s okay to write a short blog post on your website. They don’t all have to be profound. Sometimes, creating a very short post, 250 words or less, is another good way to include content on your blog.

#8 Blog Post Round-Ups

You can collect blog posts from other people who write about your niche, or you can do a round-up of blogs that were on your site during the week such as “most viewed” or important bits of information that you don’t want your audience to miss. However, be sure to only add a short blurb, a caption or a link to the blog posts that you didn’t write, because you don’t want to steal someone else’s work.

#9 Write Reviews

If you get paid or get a product free in exchange for doing a review, you must disclose it.  Use affiliate links to earn some money for products you review and recommended. Reviewing books within your niche on Amazon.com is also a great way to get traffic to your blog.

#10 Critiques and Commentaries

Read something that you want to comment about on the web? You can give a short synopsis of the blog post, and then link to the actual blog post or article, and then you can comment on it on your blog. Be careful if your commentary is negative or critical, though (unless that is your niche), because people can get quite upset.

#11 Create Surveys and Polls

Make a survey or poll right on your blog and ask your readers what they like to read about. Ask for their opinions about a topic. You can create surveys by using a service such as SurveyMonkey.com to create simple (free) survey.  There are other surveys that are more complicated with statics but they are usually not free.

It’s important to make your blog posts visually appealing. Adding images into your blog posts will not only enhance the content but will make your page attractive.

According to an article written by Neil Patel at Hubspot.com, adding images to your blog posts whether it’s about your business, products and services will generate more traffic by 94%.  You ‘ll get more total views for your site. There are a number of ways you can source appropriate images.


Taking the time to choose a relevant image will make your page look more professional.


Shoot Your Own Photos

You can produce perfectly good images by using your own digital camera or smartphone to take relevant pictures. Take pictures of products, make a portable light box or take pictures outside in natural light. Be sure to check the background so the focus is on the main item.

Get Creative

An image doesn’t have to be a photograph; it can be an attractive quote from your blog post with a beautiful and colorful background, made into a JPEG file. This is a great way to add interest as well as call out an important point within your blog post. It looks attractive and helps explain meaning to your readers.

Hire Someone

There are plenty of graphic designers from  Fiverr, Upwork, TaskRabbit as well as other freelancer sites where you can hire others to help you come up with appropriate graphics for your blog posts.  They might come up with better ideas than you.  If you outsource your blog posts, ask your writer if they can help you with images.

Stock Photo Sites

There are quite a few stock photo sites, like iStockphoto.com, free images.com, Morguefile.com, and RGBStock.com.  Some of the photos from these sites are royalty-free, while some are paid. Check the license or copyright rules to ensure that you have a right to use the image. It’s also a good practice to give credit for images.

Limit Images

Remember to consider loading time, so use smaller images. Utilize the “alt” tags on the images so that if the photo does not show up for some reason, it will tell the reader what the image is. It also alerts search engines about the subject of your website.

So, start taking photos using your smartphone from different venues you attend or while going out for a walk and use them for your blog.  It will make your blog more interesting and fun to look at!

Quality People Have Excellence

Do you fully understand what excellence means? Here’s a quote from Aristotle that defines what excellence is.

“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” 

As  you read that quote, excellence is a habit. The best way to create a new habit is by setting new goals along with creating a plan of attack. How do we do this?

First, you want to define your reasons for wanting to commit to excellence. Does it relate to your business, family or personal life? Think about this for a moment and write down your reasons.

For example, if  your goal is to be committed to excellence for your business there are simple actionable steps that you can put into place. If your business consists of clients, then get into the habit of providing more than they expect from you.

You can easily please your clients by doing any of the following:

  • Giving more value
  • Over delivering
  • Finishing the work ahead of schedule
  • Adding in a bonus

Another way to improve your business with excellence is by portraying a professional image. Is your website, logo, brochure information, business cards, all up to date? If not, then start making the changes to update them.

Customer service is another area where you can offer excellence. Make sure to provide great customer service at all times.  Respond to emails, inquiries or problems in a timely fashion.  Never get angry at your clients regardless of the situation. Always be professional and leave your emotions at home. Don’t use profanity in any business or professional setting.

If you want to excel in your life then start by thinking more in terms of your best image. People will see an air of excellence surrounding you. They will always remember you in a positive light and may even refer you to others. No matter the situation whether it’s in a paid position or if you volunteer for non-profits, your excellence is on the line.

How to Clear the Road toward Entrepreneurial Success

Going from the 9am to 5pm grind to the entrepreneurial journey may not be the easiest path, but it’s achievable.   However, there are several steps you need to take before going head first into business ownership.

  • Get clear – Getting clear on what it is you want to achieve is an integral first step. It is not as simple as coming up with an idea and writing it down. You need to write down your goals. Being specific is very important! You need to have clear, specific goals when it comes to starting a new business.
  • Create a plan – Once you are clear on what your goal for your new business is, you have to create a plan for success. Write down what your goal is, how you will achieve that goal in smaller steps and then break that list down.
  • Take action – Next, it is time to take action steps. Action steps need more than just thinking about taking them. Declare aloud and to everyone your action steps and in this way, you are accountable to your word.
  • Delegate – If you are starting a new business of your own, do not be afraid to delegate tasks, even if you don’t  have a business partner or associates yet. One day delegating will be a task you will have to do.
  • Letting go – Sometimes in order to create something new, we need to let go of something old. In order to clear the path to creating a new business, something else will have to go. Your home may need to be a little cluttered or less clean. You may have to let go of a favorite sport, skip a vacation for a year or two, can’t attend other favorite activities for a while, but it is well worth it in the end.

It would be helpful if  inviting family members and friends to help take some of the load off your daily tasks, while you learn about your new business endeavor.  Others feel they do not want family members involved.  This  forces them to really understand the work load of a true entrepreneur such as juggling many things while building a business.

Keeping your day job is important until you are financially secure in your new business endeavor.  It’s tough at first with a difficult road to travel ahead, but having an entrepreneurial mindset is a gift and can be rewarding when you succeed and excel with your goals. It’ll get easier as you adapt to your new role.

It’s one of the few marketing methods that gets you up close and personal with your audience on an individual basis. Some marketers think they should give up on email marketing but nothing could be further than the truth. The money is still in the list and that’s not changing anytime soon. But, there are some tricks of the trade.


Know Your Audience

Study your target audience so that you can create personas that describe who your individual audience is. For instance, maybe your target audience are mothers of children between the ages of 11 and 14, who home school and are housewives with a family income of $80,000 per year. If you know this information you can know a lot of things about your audience, such as the types of products or services they need as well as how much they can afford to pay for them.

Understand the Point of Your List

Is the point of your list to sell a particular product? Is the point of your list to teach and inform your subscribers about your services and how they can benefit from them? Do you know the point of your list? If you do, stick to the point of it so that your subscribers know what they’re singing up for. You can segment your audience as they purchase something or take various actions so that you can market other items and services to them.

Build Your List

In order to build your list, create an eCourse, or give away something like an eReport, or simply create a sign-up form and ask visitors who come to your website to sign up to stay up to date. Promote your list at every opportunity in order to get targeted subscribers. Ensure that the information you provide speaks to your audience in a way that resonates with them that this is something they need.

Send Your List Members Regular Information

Once you have members on your list, it’s important to keep sending them information. The information you send them must be relevant, targeted and useful. It must also be sent on a regular basis. If you don’t communicate with your list often, they might forget that they signed up and then think you’re sending them spam when you’re not.

Also make sure the information you send to your list has a meaning. It should lead your subscribers back to content on your website, or to products and services that you recommend or created.


Check Your Metrics

Every email that you send needs a reason, and that is how you know what metrics to look at. If your reason is to send them to your website to read an informative blog post, check to see if it worked. If your reason was to tell your list about an affiliate product you believe your audience needs, check conversion rates.


Keep doing what works, and change what doesn’t. You’ll discover what works by studying the metrics and testing different scenarios. This is called A/B testing. For instance, you might send the same email with two different subject lines to half of your list, or a small portion of your list, to see which one gets opened the most. Then what works the most should be done over again.

Keep building your list with your targeted audience; keep sending them relevant information, and you’ll soon discover that your most valuable online asset is your email list. Due to the value of it, it’s important to practice good list hygiene, deleting inactive subscribers periodically.
